What are those ugly, black lines around the baseboards and under doorways?

If you have light colored carpet, you may have experienced these dark lines that appear on the carpet. This soiling is called filtration soiling, because it comes from air passing through the carpet as it is attempting to get through the crack between the carpet and the baseboard or under a closed door. As the air passes through the edge of the carpet pile, microscopic soiling is deposited there (hence the term filtration soiling). This occurs over a significant period of time and is not noticed until a buildup has occurred.

This type of soiling is difficult to remove because the soil particles are so fine that they penetrate deep into the carpet pile, sometimes into the backing of the carpet. Can it be removed? Sometimes. With special products, time, and effort, reasonable results can sometimes be achieved. To help prevent filtration soiling, vacuum and wipe the edges of the carpeting on a regular basis. Be careful around the tackstrip on the edge of the carpeting; it could nick your fingers!

How long will it take?

Duration of service will depend on the type of service. For a basic carpet cleaning, estimate 20-30 minutes per room. For larger projects, we will include additional technicians on your crew to effectively and efficiently complete your project.

What process do you use to clean carpet and upholstery?

Normal drying time is anywhere from 6 to 12 hours. Depending on weather conditions, room temperature, air flow, and overall conditions, drying time can vary. To help speed the drying of your carpet, open windows, turn on fans, or increase the air conditioner in warmer months. In cooler months, turning your heat up a degree or two will speed dry time.

I've heard it's best to put off having your carpet cleaned as long as possible, is this true?

No. In fact, many of the major carpet mills today recommend professional cleaning at least once per year. The buildup of soil in your carpet combined with foot traffic creates abrasion that breaks down your carpet's fibers. The higher the traffic in a given area, the more often the carpet will need cleaning. For busier homes with children and/or pets, biannual carpet cleaning is recommended.

Should I have my carpet dry cleaned or steam cleaned?

Most major carpet manufacturers recommend truck-mounted hot water extraction as the preferred cleaning method. Hot water extraction, done properly by a certified trained technician, removes more soil and spots than dry cleaning methods.

If you have a situation that requires dry cleaning, Art Van Clean Team is experienced in various dry cleaning applications and can apply that method for you.

Why do your prices vary from other carpet cleaners?

When comparing prices, make sure you ask a lot of questions. Our price includes treating for spots, moving furniture, vacuuming, a 60-day warranty, deodorizer, stain protection, accelerated drying, household cleaners, and more. There are no hidden fees or additional charges. Also, we never sub-contract, so our technicians are always background checked, drug tested, and properly trained and certified.

Does your cleaning process soak the backing of the carpet?

No. Our process rinses the carpet deep down, but moisture does not penetrate the backing of the carpet. With our powerful truck-mounted equipment, your carpet is thoroughly rinsed, but left only damp to the touch.

Can you get the pet odor out of my carpet?

Pet odor is a very common problem, and we can help you deal with your pet challenges. From minor problems to major headaches, Art Van Clean Team can help find the solution that works best for you.

The problem with pet odor is that it can be much deeper than it first appears. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the padding underneath. In more severe cases, the urine can penetrate into the sub-floor beneath the padding.

The urine also provides an environment for the growth of bacteria. This, in turn, contributes to a worsening of the odor problem and can contribute to permanent color loss of the carpet fiber.

To eliminate this problem, the urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers affected. If the contamination is limited to only the face yarn of the carpet, then the cleaning itself may effectively remove the odor. In more severe cases, a urine neutralizer may be applied.

In the most severe cases, replacement of the carpet padding and treatment of the underside of the carpet and the sub-floor may be required. Even replacement of the carpet, however, cannot guarantee complete removal of the odor.

Left untreated over a period of time, pet odor can become absorbed into many of the porous materials in your home. Draperies, sheet rock, upholstered furniture, baseboards, and even the concrete foundation are just a few of the materials that can absorb these odors.

Art Van Clean Team offers a range of solutions to help you with your pet odor problems. In the long run, however, it may be more a matter of proper maintenance rather than total elimination. Pet ownership adds to the challenge of maintaining a clean and healthy home. We can help you meet those challenges. After all, we love our pets and want to keep them a part of our family.

What does it mean to “clean to the standards”?

In 1992, representatives from the carpet manufacturing industry, the carpet cleaning industry, and the federal government all agreed upon a common set of standards for the carpet cleaning industry. These standards are now referred to as the CRI standards. Art Van Clean Team offers all of these methods and can select the process that's right for your needs.

It was agreed that each of these cleaning processes should include these common steps:

  1. Pre-Vacuum
  2. Pre-Treat spots, stains, and heavily soiled areas
  3. Hot water extraction
  4. A thorough rinse
  5. Furniture moving
  6. Complete drying within 24 hours

Cleaning your carpet in accordance with these industry standards will help assure that you'll get a quality cleaning job.

Our 12-step cleaning service exceeds these specifications. In addition to these steps, Art Van Clean Team has powerful truck-mounted equipment combined with our exclusive "Quick-Dry" process, which reduces drying time.

Why should I have stain protection applied to my carpets?

As the finishing touch to your thoroughly cleaned carpet and/or upholstery, advanced stain protection can be professionally applied. This helps carpet and upholstery resist soiling and gives you more time to clean up spots and spills before they soak into the fibers. Plus, it makes vacuuming and cleaning up spots easier.

Why should I have my leather furniture professionally cleaned?

Like any skin, leather needs regular care to retain its moisture and softness. Most store-bought leather cleaners and conditioners provide immediate relief but end up causing long-term damage. Professional products applied by professional technicians will keep your leather looking and feeling great for a long time.

How will you clean my tile & grout?

We use a high pressure rotary tool with dual rotating jets. This is combined with the same truck-mounted steam/pressure cleaning we use to deep clean your carpet. We use tile and grout specific cleaners that strip away any waxy buildup and remove the dirt embedded in the grout lines.

Why should I have my grout lines sealed?

Grout is a porous material that absorbs soil and spills, just like carpet. Having a sealant applied will help create a protective barrier, giving you more time to clean up dirt and liquid spills before they soak into the grout. The type of sealant you choose will determine the degree of stain resistance.
